I'm often told I must have some sort of supermom/angelic/amazing abilities to be raising 8 children, but I know the truth: I'm just one of millions of mothers managing super-sized households, and there's nothing heroic and unusual about what my days look like. They're just counter-cultural in this western world where I dwell.
I also know that so many of our readers like to hang out here and on our Facebook page because there's a sense of "Oh! You, too?" as you're also raising lots of kids, or at least more than one. That's a good thing!
Here it is the end of the summer 2014, and I apologize in advance if this just freaks you out, but this is what I'm managing: one graduating from college and in a budding relationship, one moving out of state for nursing school and in a serious relationship, one senior in high school with no idea of what he wants to do with his life, one sophomore who's pretty sure of what she wants to do with her life, one 8th grader in Classical Conversations, one 5th grader at home, one 2nd grader at home, and one special needs kindergartner who's in school full-time.
Moms! If you're where I am or if you are growing your homeschool by live birth, then let my life be a magic mirror into your future. Number one: there are no naps. There are no nappers. They're awake ALL THE TIME. And they expect me to do stuff.
I texted Michele this morning to tell her that I was thinking of writing this post so you see the cracks in our lives here, and she replied:
Michele has no margin either. We bet most of you are where we are.
But Michele and I don't feel that God is telling us to shut down the blog and walk away from it. There are so many resources here built over 8 years of writing (some of it great, some of it awful, but I've deleted those . . . ) and we still have hearts to help moms trying to do this crazy margin-less life of homeschooling. What that means for you is that we're keeping ourselves on a realistic posting schedule. Like the rest of our lives, that means it will be a little erratic.
