Nativities are a wonderful thing to enjoy and collect, if you're so inclined. There are easy-to-make nativities, like these great little Sculpey Clay versions: The Holy Family With Stable or Mini Nativity. We made them one year from a kit friends assembled and gave as gifts. Great idea, isn't it? They packaged the necessary clay and directions and gave the little kit as a gift for Christmas that year.
From my mom's nativity collection, made by my super-creative sister-in-law. These are my parents' grandchildren and a grand-niece. They're all adults and older teens now, making this a priceless treasure.
Here's a darling paper-crafted nativity that just takes scissors and a good eye. My kind of craft ;)
You can make a gingerbread nativity. I'm a sucker for cookie cutters, but I'm not sure how I feel about biting into the baby Jesus... And then there is the graham cracker nativity, which is oh-so-cute but would be decimated by my 3-year-old. Yours, too?
From my mom's collection, brought to her by my brother when he and his family lived in Ecuador.
From my mom's collection, this is one of her favorites.
All these wonderful ideas around the web, but you know what? This is my year to be simple. To stick to 5 things. And so for us, we'll pull out the Fisher Price nativity and let the little ones play. It's a childlike way to keep the focus where we want it: more JESUS in Christmas.
Made for my mom by a very creative friend, you can find the pattern to make your own puzzle nativity.
As we spend 10 Days desiring more JESUS in Christmas, let's purpose to do this one thing today:
7. Enjoy visual reminders of the birth of the Savior.
