Homeschool Literature Curriculum - Fabulous Fridays!

May 17, 2013 by Kendra Fletcher in Educating at Home, Resources, Reviews

How do you go about teaching literature? It seems like such a silly question; shouldn't we just read?

Well, not much has changed for me since I last wrote about literature choices in the Marvelous Mondays series. e still mostly just read. But our high schoolers do a lot of literature discussion and dissection with the Veritas Press Omnibus series, and our high school senior has been using Sonlight 300 this year.

do love this Sonlight unit. Nate is not a lover of books and he has struggled through the sheer amount of reading, but the literature choices Sonlight has made have been thought-provoking for him. That's exactly what I wanted.

One more word about literature: think through your kids, their interests, their maturity level, and the quality of the books you're having them read. Let them cut loose and enjoy reading whenever you can, even if what they choose s below their reading level. This surprised me at first, but I'm comfortable with the fact that my kiddos pick up books at the library that seem to me to be below their skill level. Don't we all choose selections that are easy to read once in awhile? You're reading this blog and I'm betting I've not challenged your reading level once :D
